Glow Of 6

Bill Russell passed away this last day of July 2022. Is it possible the word "Legend" can be an understatement? Used to describe the greatest winner in NBA History, yes, it is. Though, there is no word more fitting. He wore the number 6. It is forever synonymous with him. Likewise, his beautiful smile and unmistakable laugh are wholly unique and etched in memory.

Why is Bill Russell considered the greatest winner in NBA History? He won 11 NBA Championships in his 13 career seasons. As mind-boggling as this stat is, he holds a stat the word "unbelievable" is inadequate to describe: in the 165 NBA Playoff Games he played, Bill Russell averaged 25 rebounds per game. Of course, no other player in NBA History can claim such accomplishments. He was in the top 20 in assists 12 out of his 13 career seasons, as a Center! For the advanced-stat/analytics-type, Bill Russell is the all-time Defensive Win Shares (DWS) leader in NBA History for a career. His DWS: 134 and the next closest at 106 is Tim Duncan.

If a shot was missed, he was going to get it! If a teammate was open for a basket, he was going to find him! If a crucial stop had to be made, he was going to make it! RELENTLESS comes to mind when describing his on-court heroics, but the same can also be said for his pursuit of Equality in society as a social activist. He's a Champion of the hardwood but more importantly a Champion of humanity. Bill Russell is a Legendary human being, and his Legacy will forever glow as radiant as his smile and laughter.
